NETTLEBED COMPANIONS  - AGE CONCERN DAY CENTRE

Age Concern has set up a Day Centre in Nettlebed. We are known as the Nettlebed Companions.  We are open on Fridays, from 10am to about 3pm and are based at Sue Ryder Home in their new Day Care Room, which is very comfortable.  We serve coffee, tea and biscuits from 10am and a 2-course lunch at about 12.30.  Anyone can drop in during the morning but as numbers for lunch are limited, this does need to be booked by Thursday at the latest.

We have done a variety of activities, including Yoga, Music and Movement, some craftwork, painting lessons, sing-a-long sessions, quizzes, Beetle drives and Bingo sessions.  We have had a couple of outings, one to a local garden centre and also to the River & Rowing Museum in Henley.  We are open to any suggestions for activities and offers of help with them.  We have books to read and borrow, board and card games to play and there are lots of opportunities to chat to friends, old and new.

The whole day, including transport, costs £4.50 If you come under your own steam and have lunch, the charge is £3.  If you just drop in during the morning, there is no formal charge but we do appreciate donations for coffee and biscuits.

We are open to older members of the village and the surrounding areas.  Everyone is welcome but it would be nice to feel that we are able to provide friendship, fun and some interest for older people who perhaps don’t get out so much or have so much to do.

We are very heavily dependent on our volunteers, who work hard and very cheerfully.  It would be wonderful if we could have a few more volunteers to come and help us – the more we have, the less the commitment is for each one!  If you would be interested in helping, please do come and talk to us at the Sue Ryder Day Centre in Nettlebed on any Friday or telephone the Organiser, (TBA).
